Who may use this service?
This service is intended to provide emergency access to LRC databases for OWC students and staff when they are unable to reach the circulation desk to activate their Raider cards because the LRC is closed.
What will the temporary number do?
You will be able to access the electronic resources provided to you by the college even though your ID card has not been activated and the LRC and/or the college is closed.  See below for how to do this.
When will the temporary number expire?
It will expire shortly after the LRC reopens.   You should plan to call the LRC circulation desk at 850-729-5318 as soon as the college and LRC are open to get your actual ID number.
Why is this number only a temporary number?
This number permits emergency access only.   Normal ID card activation requirements will apply for continued database use.
How do I use the temporary number?
With your temporary ID number and PIN you are ready to find full-text articles in our subscription databases.  These are articles from popular magazines, scholarly journals, newspapers or reference books.
  • Go to the LRC homepage http://lrc.owc.edu
  • Select FIND ARTICLES
  • Log in, using the temporary ID number as your "Borrower ID" and the temporary PIN as your "pin number".  Remember to select "Okaloosa Walton College" from the pull-down menu.
  • As soon as you log in, you should see a list of subjects, starting with "Arts and Humanities".   You can click on any of the broad subjects.  The databases that contain actual articles (not just summaries or abstracts) have the words Full-Text in bold print at the end of the name.  In the GENERAL subject group Academic Search Premier is a good place to begin.
Where do I get more help?
1) Call reference desk during open hours - 850-729-5395.
2) Either use the statewide Ask-a-librarian chat service OR send an email to Ask-A-Librarian at OWC     to get immediate help.
3) Utilize the "How do I?" page at the LRC website.
